New Regulations for Domain Name registration in Peru
(Regulations in force from Dec 8, 2007)
- The chance to apply for the automatic registration of any available domain name and forward payment for such application on-line.
- The elimination of the 10-day period for publishing applications for domain names on the website of the Peruvian administrator of domain names (PE-NIC) for opposition; and, therefore any conflict between a domain name “.pe” and a Peruvian trade mark will be solved following the principles from WIPO’s (Word Intellectual Property Organization) Uniform Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP), which have been in use by ICANN.
- The possibility of the assignment of the domain name to a third party.
- The elimination of several restrictions for the registration of a domain name, for example, it will be possible to register a domain name which coincides with a name of regions, departments, provinces, districts and/or municipalities of Peru, and which coincides to Peruvian last names, among others.
- The possibility to register domain names directly on the second level "mydomain.pe" (the owners of third level domain names have a 60-calendar-day priority period - until December 7th - to register their domain names in the second level, after this 60-calendar-day period any interested party will be able to register any domain name directly on the second level.
- The possibility of registering domain names containing the characters “á”, “é”, “í”, “ó”, “ú”, “ñ”, “ü”, which can be reserved from now until January 13, 2008, and which will be activated as of January 14, 2008.
